GETTING BACK TO THE CLIL CLASS

Today is time to review the outcome for this semester and check the difficulties and the successful things that we found on the process.

We as a CLIL teachers must be C2 level, it's a process and we can get it.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WE CAN LEARN ABOUT THE MISTAKES

CORE CLIL ACTIVATORS
  • Coopeating for programme consolidation
  • Talking through planned learning and progress with students
  • making it real
  • Engaging students
  • Stretching thinking
  • Managing the affective side of learning
  • Managing language
  • Systematising integration
  • Reflecting on practice

Possible difficulties found during the implementation of the project on each of the aspects:
  • ·      I need to improve the rubrics for the outcome
  • ·   I implement the four skills, but not all the activities have an effectively respond.  The students have a lot of problems because they have a different English levels
  •     Most of the students don’t know specific vocabulary, so I could create a Glossary to help them to understand me.

MORE ABOUT OUTCOME

In order to prepare the outcome for next semester, I need to define the rubrics to evaluate the outcome: "Strategic Plan".

That's why I need to answer those 3 questions.

1.       How have you considered to evaluate that final outcome of your subject?

The outcome is the socialization of their Strategic Plan on a session call “Shark Tank”.  The students must make a presentation about their Strategic Plan and try to convince the investors to invest on their project.
The outcome have 5 different consideration to be evaluated:
a.       Strategic Plan - Content   (25% - (1 - 100 points) )
b.      Clarity of speech (language, organized ideas, etc.) (15% )
c.       Resources (slides, videos, games, product examples, etc.) (15%)
d.      Personal Presentation (10% - )
e.      Question Solving (20% - )
f.        Investors decision  (15% - )

2.       What do you think your students need in order to succeed at the moment when you finally evaluated them?

They need to had worked during the 3er cohort and be aware about the feedback. Also they need:
a.       Review some concepts learned on Administration Subject (2nd semester)
b.      Work and advance every class
c.       Take English monitories
d.      Make the corrections that the teacher give them every class
e.      Take Strategic Decision Making monitories

3.       What type of tasks, activities, are you planning to do in your lessons before students actually reach the moment of evaluation?
They need to create an innovate company or product and develop the Strategic Plan, during the all 3er period, all classes are going to have the same behavior:
a.       The first 15-30 minutes the teacher explain the topic (a part of Strategic Plan) and then the students start working developing that topic on their company or product.   During the class the students could ask the teacher and clarify or review their work.
b.      They make 2 formal deliveries before the moment of evaluation.  Every delivery has some feedback (suggestions and/or corrections) and it is graded.
c.       Organize a calendar with ILCE for English monitoring about
                                                               i.      Speaking
                                                             ii.      Presentation
                                                            iii.      Grammar

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

We notice that those kind of assesment are not easy to make, it takes time to prepare, to review, to give on time and appropiate feedback.

I as a teacher can use different kind of ways to evaluate my stuents:

  1. Oral situations: speach - debates - exploring thought questions - presentations
  2. Practical Exercises: diary - laboratories - homework - journals - conceptual maps - semantic web - projects
  3. Written Text: Essay - Exam text
  4. Observation: Checklist - class journal - Diary (make by the teacher)

Differences betwen Assessment and Evaluation

Is important to take notice the differences between Assess

Techniques and instruments

For me it's important use different kind of instruments to evaluate the advance for my students.

FEEDBACK

Feedback is so important, because it permits students know the results about their work.

All the feedback that we as a teachers give to our students must be:

  1. Specific: what workfull, what needs improvement
  2. Acctionable: what can be done differently next time
  3. Timely: inmediate and frequent
  4. Respectful: focusing on future solutions (not personal)

I realize that even I give an ontime feedback to my students, I miss some of the last four topics.

I compromise as a teaher, for next semester apply these 4 topics on the feedbacks that I give to my students.

ASSESSMENT AND ITS IMPORTANCE

We were so worry about evaluation, but the Assessment was really great.  No matter we don't knew the topic, it was easy to develop.

Realizing the Assesment we could:
  • Improve vocabulary
  • Define the purpose of the reading
  • Create a Pre-reading, While-reading and Post-reading activities.

I was soprised with the results about the evaluation from my classmates and the fake teachers.

Thanks a lot every one...

READING COMPREHENSION

Give a reading to our students must be with an specific purpose.  We need to identify the purpose and have it in mind to prepare the questions for reading comprehension.

Purpose of reading:

  • Identify the main idea
  • Get specific information
  • Identify vocabulary
  • Establish comparisons
  • Apply prior knowledge
  • Give opinion

To realize the control the reading comprehension, we use questions to be answered by our students.  The most used types of questions are:

  • Open Questions: Those kind of questions usualy start with "WH" (What/Why/How/Where/When) expression.  Example: What do you think about ... ?
  • Closed Questions: / True/False Questions: Student have a 50% chance of guessing the correct answer,  that's why is important that they explain the reason for their chose. Those kind of question could be anwered with Yes or Not.  Example: Do you think that human kind is killing the planed? Yes___ No____ Why? ___________________.      Adding a Why question, you confirm that your student know the answer and he is not guessing.
  • Multiple Choise Questions: Generally, but not allways it has only one correct answer.  Toefl exam use those kind of questions and all the aswers are correct, but there is just one that fix exacly with the question.
  • Matching Questions: The students must corelated a key word for one colum to some definition from the other colum.
  • Labeling Questions: Those kind of questions are good to remembering vocabulary.

I realize that most of the time I don't define clearly the purpose of the readings for my student's.
I compromise myself work on all the readings that I will going to use next semester.
